J-Term Traveling Seminar

Overview
Each January, IAU sponsors a J-term Traveling Seminar, a 18-day academic and cultural tour of 12 key cities in
France, Morocco, Spain and Gibraltar, a British territory located on the southern end of the Iberian Peninsula at the entrance of the Mediterranean. The academic component consists of
a series of briefings from leading European academic, literary and
political personalities and experts on the European relationship with
the Islamic world. Participants will attend daily lectures and meetings
with distinguished scholars from IAU in addition to local guides and
experts in the field of politics, history and culture.

Courses/Credit
The J-term Traveling Seminar can be treated as a stand-alone program (3
credits) or combined with IAU’s spring semester (18 credits) for which
students would receive discounted tuition. Credit can be earned in one
of six courses:
- Art History 395: Classical Islam and the European Renaissance
- Cross Cultural Studies 395: Jews, Muslims and Christians in Europe and
the Islamic World
- French 395: Cultural History of France and the Islamic World
- History 395: Cultural History of Europe and the Islamic World
- Political Science 395: European Politics and the Islamic World
- Spanish 395: Cultural History of Spain and the Islamic World
Program Dates and Fees
The next J-term Traveling Seminar will run January 6-24, 2013. The program fee is $4,475 and includes:
- Tuition for 3 credits
- Lodging in 3 and 4 star hotels
- Breakfast each day and most dinners
- Entrance fees to all museums and guest lecture venues
- Intra-European transportation to and from each city
- Medical insurance
Note: Program fees
do not include transcontinental airfare to Europe.
Candidates and Admission
