Courses for credit at the French University through IAU
Students at the Centre d'Avignon may choose to enroll in one course for credit at the local French University, l'Universite d'Avignon et des pays de Vaucluse. This opportunity is restricted to six qualified students per semester and is unavailable during the summer term. The students would also choose an additional four courses from among Avignon's curriculum to round out their class schedule.
Qualifications
Students interested in this option must:
- Indicate their desire on IAU's application (paper or online)
- In addition to meeting the current admission requirements for entry into Le Centre d'Avignon, students must write a brief statement (in French) as to why they desire to enroll in a course at the local French university and what benefits they expect or hope to gain from such an experience. The statement may be emailed to the Avignon Center Director who will then be personally in touch with each candidate to arrange for any necessary next steps.
- Select one course (see 'Course Selections', below) and one alternate and communicate them to the Avignon Center Director
- Obtain the necessary approvals on their home campus. Typically this would be from their study abroad office AND from the department of their major since course equivalencies may need to be determined/pre-approved (a representative from each may email IAU's admissions office with their respective approvals.
- Participate in a brief, yet formal phone interview (conducted in French with the Avignon Center Director)
Course options
So that greater care can be taken to overseeing this valuable new option, IAU will pre-select the French University courses in which students may enroll. Once the course schedule for the upcoming term becomes available from the French University, we will post them. In the meantime, some course possibilities may be found here.
Costs
IAU will split course fees with the students meaning students will be expected to pay roughly $170 US. This fee will be included in the students' invoices.
Audit Option
Students will continue to have the option to audit courses at the French University. Please contact Dr. Rockmore for more information.
