Financial Policies

Refunds

Refunds may be granted only if email notice of withdrawal, sent by student or sponsoring institution, is received by IAU’s Registrar according to the schedule below. January Term students must submit the January Term Cancellation Form in order to officially cancel enrollment.

J-Term students
  • November 1: full refund of all program fees paid (excluding the $750 enrollment deposit and a $250 cancellation fee)

  • November 2 - Program Start Date: student will be responsible for the $1,500 enrollment deposit plus a $1,250 cancellation fee

  • As of program commencement date: no refunds

Fall/Spring semester students
  • 30 days or more prior to program commencement date**: full refund of all fees paid (excluding enrollment deposit)

  • Within 30 days of program commencement date: 75% of tuition and 75% of housing

  • As of program commencement date or after: no tuition or housing refunds

Summer term students
  • 30 days or more prior to program commencement date**: full refund of all fees paid (excluding enrollment deposit)

  • Within 30 days of program commencement date: 75% of tuition and 75% of housing

  • As of program commencement date or after: no tuition or housing refunds

*The program commencement date for the J-Term will be the date students are advised to arrive in Europe.

**The program commencement date for the semester and summer programs is the orientation day, as listed on the Term page.

Exceptions for illness, accident or anything else out of the control of the student can be made. A written explanation along with supporting documentation must be sent to IAU's Dean of Admissions. Their decision is final.

Deferrals

Accepted students may defer their enrollment for up to one year (from their original intended term of enrollment). Students who defer are not required to submit additional paperwork, but IAU reserves the right to contact the sending institution to confirm the student is still in good standing.  A $500 deposit over and above a deposit that the student may have already paid – applied to the student’s tuition – is required.
