Third-Party Scholarships

There are many third-party study abroad scholarships available through reputable organizations. Applications for these scholarships should be submitted as soon as possible, and make sure to closely follow deadlines and guidelines of each organization. Also, please check with your school's study abroad office and your major's department as they may have scholarships available as well.

  • AIFS Achievement Scholarship - Each semester, AIFS offers up to 10 semester scholarships of $1000 to outstanding students from under-represented groups. Applicants must demonstrate high academic achievement and/or participate in community service activities.

  • - General and diversity scholarships for underrepresented students

  • Benjamin Franklin Travel Grant - Grant of $900 for sophomores, juniors and seniors with a French major or minor to travel to France for study
  • Scholarship Essay Contest - Applicants must submit a 500 word essay, be a current USA citizen, enrolled in an accredited two or four-year college or university and have a most recent GPA of 2.0 or higher.

  • Diversity Abroad - Diversity Abroad, in cooperation with AIFS, will offer ten, $500 scholarships for full-time undergraduate (both community college and university level) students studying abroad.

  • Foundation for Global Scholars Scholarships - The Foundation will support its mission by awarding scholarships to help enable students to obtain an international experience. Students who are from underrepresented populations in international education are a priority.

  • GAIN Scholarship - The GAIN Scholarship was developed to aid in diversifying study abroad by providing opportunities for students who are economically challenged, from diverse backgrounds, students with documented disabilities, or underrepresented fields of study.

  • Gilman International Scholarship Program - The Gilman Scholarship Program offers awards for undergraduate study abroad and was established by the International Academic Opportunity Act of 2000. This scholarship provides awards for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in study abroad programs worldwide.

  • Go Overseas - The Go Overseas Study Abroad Scholarship is open to all current or aspiring study abroad students. Scholarships are awarded each year. The scholarship is awarded based on the creativity and analytical thinking displayed through writing samples, photos, and/or video submissions.

  • International Student Loan - International Student Loan is here to help, by offering access to a range of international student loans, foreign-enrolled loans and study abroad loans to international students and Canadian students in the USA and for US students studying abroad around the world.

  • Phi Kappa Phi - Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grants are designed to help support undergraduates as they seek knowledge and experience in their academic fields by studying abroad. Fifty $1,000 grants are awarded each year.

  • Rainbow Scholarship - This scholarship will be awarded to a deserving LGBT student who aims to participate in a high-quality, rigorous education abroad program.

  • Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholarship -  The scholarships sponsor undergraduate and graduate students, as well as qualified professionals pursuing vocational studies. While abroad, scholars serve as goodwill ambassadors to the country where they study and give presentations about their own culture to Rotary clubs and other groups. Back home, scholars share with Rotarians and others the experiences that deepened their understanding of another culture.

  • STA Travel Scholar Award - STA’s mission is to create opportunities for students and young adults to experience the world around them. The scholarships serve to help achieve that mission and give deserving students the opportunity to study abroad where they can learn just as much about themselves as the world around them. Students should have one of the following academic majors to qualify: photography, film, art, travel and tourism, international business, international studies and/or a foreign language.

  • WSA Europe Cultural Bridge Scholarship - WSA Europe is a student travel organization dedicated to providing educational tours and travel resources for students studying abroad throughout Europe. It is WSA's mission to ensure every student spends at least one period abroad during their time in either college or high-school. WSA has created the Cultural Bridge Scholarship to allow students the incredible, enriching opportunity to study abroad in Europe. The purpose of this scholarship is to defray the expensive living and academic cost of spending a semester abroad. The scholarship is open to all students already signed up or applied to study abroad.
