Financing your Study Abroad Experience with IAU France
One of the biggest concerns amongst prospective study abroad students these days is determining if they can afford it. IAU College is committed to helping students understand the process of funding their study abroad program and to providing information on available resources to help lower their costs and/or manage their payments.
Don't Forget to Pack Your Financial Aid!
First and foremost, it is important to note that if students presently receive financial assistance on campus, it is more than likely that some, if not all of it, is portable (meaning students can take it with them!) to the study abroad program. The U.S. Department of Education permits schools to release federal aid for payment to a study abroad program as long as the program (in this case, IAU) is approved for credit by the home institution and applies towards a degree. In fact, federal law also states that aid can cover all "reasonable" costs for a study abroad program, including: round-trip transportation, tuition and fees for the program, living costs, passport & visa fees and health insurance.
Who to Contact on Campus?
Interested students should make sure to contact their study abroad office and their financial aid office regarding their intent to study abroad. If needed, IAU and the student’s school may sign a "Consortium Agreement" which is a contractual agreement between the two parties that helps ensure the transfer of any financial assistance package to the IAU program. IAU can also provide the student’s financial aid office with a budget so that they can be aware of expected costs and help determine the amount of financial aid that is eligible to be transferred.
